Historian wants Queen to return saints' relics

An amateur historian yesterday wrote to the Queen asking her to return an unusual collection of body parts of saints which he claims was stolen from a cathedral hundreds of years ago.

Paul Cantrell, 60, believes the relics were seized from Lincoln Cathedral on the orders of King Henry VIII in the 16th century and taken to the Tower of London.

He has written to Buckingham Palace asking for the historic items to be returned or, if not, for the Queen to make a substantial donation to the cathedral in their place.
