Is There a Dancer in the House?; Phillip Broomhead, Leaping to the Rescue of the Royal Ballet

He hadn't shaved in a week. He was wearing ripped jeans and a
T-shirt. He was on vacation, for god's sake. Rehearsals? Warm-up?
He'd spent the day on the New Jersey Turnpike, driving a rental car
down from New York City. He was tired, and had gotten a little lost
on the way.
But Wednesday night, after the lead male dancer in the Royal
Ballet performance of "Swan Lake" fell, tearing a ligament during
the first act - and was carried backstage screaming in agony -
Phillip Broomhead looked down and found himself dancing the part
instead, his legs alive with adrenaline.
