PILAR PRIMO de RIVERA

Dictator's Daughter

Pilar Primo de Rivera, 81, daughter of the 1920s Spanish dictator Miguel Primo de Rivera and a leading member of the fascist Falange Espanola party, died of a heart ailment March 17 in Madrid.

She sat in the Cortes, Spain's parliament, throughout the regime of Gen. Francisco Franco, and was awarded the title of Countess of Castillo de la Mota in 1960. She resigned as leader of the Falange's women's wing in 1977, two years after Franco's death, and faded from public life. The Falange sided with Franco against the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War.
