Anti-War Movement Is Fighting a Losing Battle
|
Hopes were high and emotions were flush the evening of Jan. 26,
when thousands of protesters from across the country flooded the
streets of Washington to denounce the Persian Gulf War. Never before
had so many come together for an anti-war rally so early in a
conflict, social commentators said.
But almost as quickly as it had gained momentum, the anti-war
movement faltered. By the time President Bush ordered a cease-fire
Wednesday night, it had almost lost its voice.
