Nineteen years ago, Kim Dae Jung's opposition to the South
Korean military government was deemed so seditious that the regime
kidnapped him from a Tokyo hotel and spirited him back to Seoul to
face charges. Twelve years ago, he was sentenced to death on another
sedition charge - and was spared only because of an international
outcry.
This week, supporters of Kim were touting private polls showing
that he had just edged ahead by a percentage point in a three-way
