CBS's Sellout Of `Brooklyn Bridge'

In four decades of network television, there've been relatively few situation comedies as warm and humane and disarming as "Brooklyn Bridge," Gary David Goldberg's continuing memoir about growing up in the 1950s.

CBS executives should have been proud to have such a program on their network. Indeed, they claim they were proud.

But they canceled it anyway.

Earlier this month, despite the pleas of TV critics and Viewers for Quality Television, a grass-roots viewer group, CBS yanked "Brooklyn Bridge" off the air, claiming that the show was only on "hiatus" and that seven episodes ...
