AS India celebrated its 55th anniversary as an independent nation
this year, the country seems far away from the values of love, peace
and non- violence its founding father advocated.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Gujarati lawyer better known as
Mahathma Gandhi (Great Soul), used non-violent agitation and mass
action to oust British colonial rule in his homeland.
His country's first major birth pain was when it was split into
two nations, namely Pakistan and India, and this culminated in
bloodshed and thousands of deaths.
