Delight as rare plant discovered

A RARE plant has been discovered at a North-East nature reserve.
The specimen, called petty whin, was found by Dr Dave Wainwright,
of Butterfly Conservation, while he was undertaking a survey at
Hedleyhope Fell nature reserve, near Tow Law, County Durham.
Craig Best, site manager at the reserve said: "This discovery is
fantastic news, as it was not confirmed as being present on site
until last week.
"The fell is important for a wide range of species, including
stags horn club moss, adders, tongue fern and short-eared owls.
