MORE than 800 post offices across the region will be axed if plans to slim down the network get the go-ahead, it was claimed last night.The warning came from the Conservative Party, which accused the Government of using post offices as a political football.It led to renewed fears over the future of many loss-making but vital post offices in rural and deprived areas.Conservatives said the scale of the closures could dwarf those already seen in North Yorkshire and the North-East.A total of 235 post offices have been closed in the region between 1999 and last year.The Government - which has ...
