Maryland sales tax for computer services draws opposition

A proposed sales tax on computer services emerged as a popular target Thursday as foes called it unclear and dangerous to small business.

The Senate narrowly defeated an effort Thursday afternoon to remove the proposed sales tax from computer services, landscaping and arcades as it worked into the evening on an alternative to Gov. Martin O'Malley's plan to address the state's projected $1.5 billion budget deficit.
