Minerals Management Service gives Shell passing grade in surprise oil spill drill

The Minerals Management Service conducted its 250th drill Oct. 16 to test oil spill response as part of its Unannounced Drill Program. The surprise drill tested offshore operator Shell Exploration and Production Co. and its ability to deal with an oil spill.

"MMS uses these drills to test the operators' Oil Spill Response Plans," said Lars Herbst, Gulf of Mexico regional director.
