The building squats beside the Potomac, trying to approximate a
look of dignity and importance.
From a distance, its blinding marble facades suggest a sense of
confidence. But up close, those slabs are cracking and warping.
They are millstones weighing down the institution that they were
meant to adorn.
The physical deterioration of the 21-year-old Kennedy Center is
