Evacuation day is living history for schoolchildren
|
Schoolchildren forsook the comforts of the classroom to become
Second World War evacuees for the day, as part of a living history
lesson.
The seven to nine-year-olds from St Mary's Primary School,
Bideford, were given a small taste of life as a wartime youngster
during the special event yesterday.
More than 100 pupils were transported back in time during the
visit to the Dartmoor Railway, near Okehampton, West Devon.
Carrying replica gas masks, they played the part of children being
evacuated from London to the Devon countryside during the early
stages of the conflict.
