Care needed in temperature comparisons

When making comparison with the past, rainfall (and sunshine) data can be quoted as percentage change. But if the Celsius (or Fahrenheit) scale is used for temperature it is necessary to stick with the amount of change.

If the Met Office supplied the figure of 36 per cent increase above average in temperature for Devon (WMN, March 3), it should have known better. Incidentally, had the same principle been applied using Fahrenheit the increase would have been from 41.34 to 44.74 degrees; up 8 per cent.
