pounds3m to prepare for fire control centre

Fire and rescue authorities in the South West are to be given just
over pounds3 million to prepare for the new regional fire control
centre which is due to begin operating from 2008.
The centre at Taunton will take over from separate control rooms
for Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Avon, Gloucestershire and
Wiltshire.
The new centre at the Blackbrook Business Park will be one of
eight regional centres which the Government believes will provide
faster response times.
The proposal has been condemned by the Fire Brigades' Union (FBU),
