Benign chiggy-pigs and clothes-hungry moths

A reader has asked me about the best solution to clothes moths. Wearing clothes regularly, keeping them aired and clean is best - better than moth balls and natural or artificial chemicals. None are 100 per cent effective and keeping clothing shut up, unused, in a dark place asks for trouble.

Of the four common clothes moth species, Tineola bisselliella is the commonest or most universal and is also known as the webbing moth. Caterpillars make silk lined tubes in material they are feeding on, hence "webbing".
