gouache is signed on the image MWT - the initials of London artist
Margaret Tarrant. She was born in Battersea and raised in Margate and
Clapham, where she attended Clapham High School from 1898 to 1905 and
won several prizes for her artistic ability.
By 1905 she had made up her mind to teach and began training. She
was not confident enough to continue, so her father Percy suggested
she join him working as an illustrator. ...
