Warning of jellyfish in west waters

Beach-goers in the Westcountry are being warned that stinging jellyfish have swarmed into our waters earlier than usual due to a mild spring.

The warmer climate not only entices holidaymakers and beach- lovers to our the coasts but also brings the risk of dangerous jellyfish species, such as the mauve stinger, widespread in the Mediterranean.

People in the Westcountry are now being urged to report any sightings. Five main species of are regularly found in British waters and the warmer climate may be attracting more of the creatures to our shores.
