The end of the road for the Scottish Executive

The minority SNP administration will rename the Scottish Executive this week, it was confirmed yesterday.

From today, all documents, letters and publicity material will carry the name Scottish Government.

And the Saltire will replace the Royal Coat-of-Arms of the United Kingdom on all official documents.

Workmen yesterday replaced the old Scottish Executive sign at the Victoria Quay building in Leith, Edinburgh.

First Minister Alex Salmond will officially recognise the change on Wednesday when the SNP's legislative programme becomes the first document to bear the new name.
