Race for arctic resources gathering pace
|
Following August's drama at the North Pole when Moscow attempted
to lay claim to the resources of the High Arctic, Denmark has
dispatched a 180-person expedition to register its claim, the
Americans have ordered an icebreaker north and a Russian shipping
company has said it is to convert an icebreaker-container vessel to a
drillship. And Putin has ordered Bears back in the air.
Not only that, Russia is planning a further expedition for late
this year.
The rush for the Arctic is unfolding like the plot of an Alistair
