A former teacher unfairly dismissed after he complained about wrongly marked exams went to Scotland's highest civil court yesterday to appeal a decision not to award him compensation.

Ian Kerr, who taught maths at Aberdeen's Hazlehead Academy, labelled the employment tribunal which heard his case against the city council a "shambles".

He was speaking at the start of a two-day hearing before three senior judges at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

The 63-year-old teacher resigned from his post at the school after complaining about alleged leniency in the marking of pupils' exam papers.
