Nairn statue to mark its fishing heritage
|
The town of Nairn is hoping to permanently commemorate its fishing
heritage with a bronze sculpture erected at the harbour.
A charity called Nairn Fund, backed by local councillor Liz
MacDonald, has applied to Highland Council for planning permission
for the bronze lifesize sculpture.
It will be based on Nairn fisherwomen with creels on their backs
and baskets, similar to the Stornoway fishergirls statue erected in
Lewis three years ago.
They hope to secure funding from Highland 2007.
Originally Mrs MacDonald hoped to have the town's Bailey Bridge
refurbished after it was closed to vehicles ...
