Peer unveils bid to return Nairn to its golden age
|
A Highland peer unveiled plans yesterday to restore the seaside
town of Nairn to its Victorian heyday, doubling its population and
rebranding it the "Brighton of the north".
Colin Campbell, the seventh Earl of Cawdor and 25th Thane, is
spearheading the massive community development plan which would rival
the proposed new settlement on the A96, east of Inverness.
He is rallying local landowners and leading business people to
expand the "commercially-ailing" resort by building south and
westwards, swelling the population to 18,000 over the next 10 to 15
years and kick-starting new developments ...
