Tributes paid to trailblazing former deputy leader of SNP

Friends and colleagues paid tribute last night to former East Aberdeenshire MP Douglas Henderson, who has died after a short illness.

The SNP veteran was being treated in an Edinburgh hospital for a pancreas problem and other conditions and suffered a thrombosis.

He had battled poor health for much of the 1990s, but had been enjoying a resurgence in his political career and been chosen by his party to fight the Falkirk East seat at next year's Holyrood elections.
