Have you ever looked down into the site of the excavated Beverley
Gate at the top of Whitefriargate and noticed the iron ram cradles,
the equipment that once lifted Monument Bridge? Or spotted street
boxes in the Old Town marked HHPCo?
I hadn't until they were pointed out to me by Hull's Head Of
Culture, Brian Hayton, as a survivor from a remarkable local "first",
the Hull Hydraulic Power Company.
