AT THE Munch Museum in Oslo, educational officer Lill-Heidi Opsahl
opens a file of paintings sent to her following the theft last year
of The Scream, the iconic work by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch
(1863-1944). There are 200 of these, all versions of the painting
created by children: desert screams with cacti by the highway, a
blonde-haired Alice in Wonderland scream, a scream with two figures
like robbers, scuttling off to the side.
Most came from Norway, where the theft of The Scream - and another
Munch painting, Madonna - was reported in news flashes as if it were
a natural disaster ...
