Titanic space project sends a flying saucer to Saturn's moon Scientists begin nervous wait for news from Huygens

IN the early hours of Christmas morning, a pioneering space
vessel, shaped like a flying saucer, broke away from its Nasa
mothership and plunged towards Titan, one of Saturn's moons, in a
quest to unravel one of the solar system's greatest mysteries.
Scientists working on the European Space Agency (ESA) programme
hope the robot lab, Huygens, will shed light on Titan's mysterious
surface.
Because of the thick smog covering it, they don't know if their
craft will land on frozen oceans, on ice hills or in a slushy methane
geyser.
