Two years ago, former Michigan Gov. John Engler and former Wayne County
Executive Ed McNamara engineered a deal that stripped Wayne County of its
oversight of Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Engler and McNamara transferred control of the Airport from Wayne County to
the Wayne County Airport Authority.

So instead of being run by managers who were accountable to publicly
elected officials, the Airport is now operated by corporate bigwigs who are
accountable only to each other.

I strongly objected to the Authority when it was created because I knew it
would be bad ...
