Twenty years after the Union Carbide gas tragedy, its echoes persist thanks
to the efforts of activists of various hues.
April 21, they notched up another small victory in a seemingly endless
crusade when the 11-member Board of Supervisors of the City of San
Francisco unanimously passed a resolution, asking the Dow Chemical Company
to address issues that face the survivors of the Bhopal tragedy.
The city will also observe December 3, 2004, the 20th anniversary of what
is arguably the worst industrial disaster of modern times, as Bhopal
Remembrance Day.
