The celebration of the life of Mrs. Nicola Fowles was held on March 6, at
Phillips Temple CME Church, 971 E. 43rd St.
Mrs. Fowles, 93, a long-time resident of California and civic leader, died
of heart failure on Feb. 27, at California Hospital. She was born Nicola
Janet, later Jeannette, Holland on March 5, 1910 to the union of John
William and Essie Adeline (Hawkins) Holland of Kansas City, Kan.
As a youngster, she attended primary school in Kansas City and visited her
mother's family in Fort Scott every summer. Her love of learning and
