Soc: French look to avoid repeat of World Cup fiasco

PARIS, AFP - France will be looking to put up a far more resolute defence of its crown
in Euro 2004 than the meek surrender of the World Cup two years ago when it crashed out
in the first round.

Under Jacques Santini, who replaced the hapless Roger Lemerre, the French cruised through
the qualifiers.

However while most pundits would see it and England progressing smoothly from a group
