WA: $15 million commonwealth boost for WA timber industry

PERTH, April 5 AAP - The federal government is to boost Western Australia's timber
industry by $15 million, blaming the state government for running down the local forestry
business.

Federal Forestry Minister Ian Macdonald said today the commonwealth was being forced
to "pick up the pieces" with two grant programs to create more jobs and modernise the
industry.

The commonwealth's Forestry Assistance Program will provide $12.5 million towards keeping
and creating jobs and updating harvesting ...
