Lunar New Year does not fall on the same date each year, although it is
always in January or February. This year Lunar New Year falls on January
22, 2004, and it is The Year of the Monkey. It is Chinese New Year,
Vietnamese Tet, Korean Sol, Tibetan Losar, and for Japanese people who
still go by the lunar calendar, it is Oshogatsu.

Lunar New Year is based on the cycles of the moon. A complete lunar cycle
takes 60 years. It is made up of five cycles that are 12 years each. Each
12-year segment is named after an animal.
