Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi called elections Wednesday, getting the king to dissolve Parliament in a formality that paves the way for national polls within weeks.
Abdullah, in a statement carried by the Bernama national news agency, said King Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail had signed a decree dissolving parliament, effective Thursday, "to make way for the 11th general election."
