Queen launches Queen Mary II

SOUTHAMPTON, England, Jan 08, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth christened the biggest cruise liner ever built Thursday, sending the Queen Mary II officially to sea.

Accompanied by the Prince Philip, the queen went on a tour of the 150,000-ton liner in advance of the naming ceremony, the BBC reported.

It is the first time the queen has named a Cunard ship since the launch in 1967 of the QE2, whose Southampton to New York service will be taken over by the 2,620-passenger Queen ...
