As a young boy growing up with music in his blood, Walter Bell looked
forward to the annual Elks Lodge parade that passed by his family's West
Philly home on Arch Street near 57th.

"You could hear the drums from blocks away. I'd rush home from church to
see this parade," Bell said during an interview last week. "The other kids
were into the nice cars in that parade and the turbans people were wearing,
but the music got me...the drums and the horns."
