Klagenfurt city to build its own stadium for Euro 2008

Klagenfurt will build a new 32,000-seat stadium for the 2008 European soccer championship, with provincial and government funding.

"The city will build the stadium itself," mayor Harald Scheucher told the Austria Press Agency Monday, four days ahead of the UEFA commissioners' stadium inspection.

According to Scheucher, the Klagenfurt city council has decided to realize the project itself, "since the plans of German soccer holding Arena AG, who wanted to erect the new stadium on the shores of Lake Woerthersee, were highly unreasonable."
