A tiny French-language catechism dating from 1583 found behind oak paneling at a stately home went on display Wednesday, with officials confessing they remain puzzled about why it lay hidden for so long.
The 4.5-inch (11.43 centimeters), leather-bound "L'ABC des Chrestiens," a guide to the Christian faith, was found by a joiner doing restoration work at Hardwick Hall in northern England, where the book is now being exhibited.
