Forty years ago, Trisha Brown used lower Manhattan to help reinvent dance. Now, a new downtown exhibit focuses on Brown's collaborations with other artists.
"Trisha Brown: Dance and Art in Dialogue, 1961-2001" opened Friday at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in Soho. The Manhattan neighborhood served as backdrop for some of Brown's early, experimental dances on rooftops, in churches and even along building facades, as seen in 1970's now-famous "Man Walking Down the Side of a Building."
