RAMESH Nathan created a major upset in the US$170,000 (RM646,000) when he sent top seed Xia Xuanze of China packing in the first round in Surabaya yesterday.

It was probably Ramesh's first win over a top five player in his career and achieved it with a 15-1, 11-15, 15-6 win to reach the second round.
However, it was not be for joint fifith seed Lee Tsuen Seng who went crashing in the first round with a 15-11, 15-13 defeat to Taufik Akhbar Hidayat of Indonesia.
