KOTA KINABALU, Wed. - More than 25,000 people thronged the Merdeka Field last night to celebrate Kota Kinabalu's elevation as the nation's sixth city.

The night's highlight was the hoisting of the city flag at the stroke of midnight by seven enforcement officers from the Kota Kinabalu City Hall. This was followed by a 30-minute fireworks display.
