To pull up this Black history story, I had to travel to Douglass in North
Memphis - the story of one of the great golf stories in Shelby County: the
story of Odessa Dickens Hayes.
Odessa Dickens, as she is called, was born and raised in Douglass --
attended Douglass Elementary and Junior High schools, and later, Booker T.
Washington, where she studied history under Nat D. Williams, the famous
teacher and journalist.
