Fannie Mae, the nation's largest supplier of revenues to lenders who make
mortgages available, has made major strides in closing the housing gap
among minorities -- especially African Americans.

"Last year, in Oakland Fannie Mae's products and partnerships helped 3,300
African-American families become homeowners," said Colleen Haggerty, a
spokeswoman for the agency. In 1993, a "targeted" housing drive began in
the city and the pilot housing partnership became a model for other
