My subject this week is Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz). Remembering
him has absolutely nothing to do with Black History Month--that absurdly
annual pomp where America celebrates Black folk amidst racial inequities
and self-righteous denial of reparations. Remembering Malcolm occurred by
chance. A Drexel University freshman--referred to me by his father--chose
Malcolm X as the focus of his assignment in Humanities, which required an
interview with someone who was familiar with his selected persona. Notably
