Ester Mabry, the owner of Ester's Orbit Room on 7th Street in Oakland was a
popular waitress for the late nightclub owner Slim Jenkins, before she
started her own Ester's Breakfast Club, when 7th street was thriving with
African American businesses.
"We served breakfast 24 hours a day," Ester said in an interview with the
POST. "Customers included Army and Navy people from the Army Base and Naval
Supply Center, and people came to play cards or dice at Raincoat Jones'
popular nightspot. I met nearly everyone who was anyone, as people came to
