Scott Joplin's `Guest of Honor'
Scott Joplin was a man of many talents and vices, so I learned at a recent
reading of "A Guest of Honor," a play by Michael Dinwiddie read on
Halloween at the 28th Street Theatre.
I like play readings because they're informal and actors seem less
intimidated. If anything, they are more intimidating to the audience
because there is less of an implied boundary between them.
"A Guest of Honor" focuses on Joplin and the whites and Blacks in his
circle when Ragtime was making its imprint on American society.
