Muslims can meditate on empirical art at DIA

The magnificence of the Ottoman Empire comes alive when Empire of the
Sultans: Ottoman Art from the Khalili Collection opens at the Detroit
Institute of Arts on July 30.

Over 200 objects, ranging from holy Korans adorned with elegant
calligraphy, to scientific instruments, carpets and textiles, embrace every
aspect of Ottoman art and the dynasty that spanned more than six centuries.
The objects represent works from throughout the empire, including Turkey,
Greece, America, Syria, North Africa, Egypt and the Balkans.
