Hampton House gets historic designation

A Liberty City Hotel that hosted Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X and
Muhammad Ali got the historic designation it needed last Wednesday to save
it from demolition.
The Miami-Dade Historic Preservation Board named the Hampton House a county
historic site after a round of presentations last week. The Historic
Hampton House Community Trust has been pushing the board to help save the
site, which now sits as an eyesore overrun with weeds and trees.
With a unanimous vote the board sent a resounding message to
