Phillip J. Brutus will be the first Haitian-American in state house

Phillip J. Brutus is one step closer to his goal of becoming the first
Haitian-American state representative in Florida.

Brutus won the Democratic primary Tuesday night, beating El Portal
councilwoman Daisy Black with more than 63 percent of the vote.

The attorney received 5,699 votes to Black's 3,303 votes.

In November, Brutus will face Republican Reginald "Reggie" Thompson and
Jesus Camps, who is running with no party affiliation. However, working in
