Fifteen-year-old Josh Lachter is spending his summer showing people
"degraded images" from computers in the East Village.

This may sound bad, but Lachter, a clean-cut day school student from Forest
Hills, is hardly disseminating pornography. Instead, he is participating in
a new science research program through the Solomon Schechter High School of
New York.

Several times a week Lachter goes to the NYU Center for Neural Science,
where he helps scientists perform experiments on visual perception. Using
